I've begun to lead another art group this semester, this time I'm exploring the therapeutic benefits of creativity among CVA victims in Ithaca College's Center for Life Skills (CLS). The main question I'm researching continues to evolve- currently I'm focusing on how art as a means of expression is beneficial to adults with communication disorders. My main goal in CLS is to introduce the participants to a new way of expressing themselves, with the hope that many of them will appreciate this mode of communication because of any verbal communication difficulties they might have. With this, it is important to emphasize the process of expressing oneself over its product. As always, convincing adults that the results of their efforts are not the main focus is a huge challenge.
